NPD is a personality disorder, a mental condition in which a person has an inflated sense of their own importance, a lack of empathy for others and a need for excessive admiration / attention.

Types of narcissism can include:

  • Grandiose narcissism, a sense of self entitlement / superiority and need for admiration
  • Vulnerable narcissism, a sense of entitlement along with an avoidant and anxious nature

Triggers - The Causes

  • Childhood trauma / abuse
  • Early relationships (family / friends)
  • Genetics
  • Personality / temperament 

Symptoms - What it looks like

  • Sense of entitlement
  • Manipulative behavior
  • Lack of empathy
  • Need for admiration
  • Disregard for others’ feelings
  • Anger / impatience if not given special treatment
  • Substantial interpersonal issues
  • Belittling of others to appear superior
  • Arrogance
  • Secret feelings of insecurity, vulnerability, humiliation or shame
  • Issues dealing with change and stress Issues regulating emotions / behavior
