Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior that can manifest with physical contact or verbally; it can sometimes be more subtle, as well, when it happens in a passive aggressive manner. Bullying can have a serious effect on a person's emotional, social and psychological well-being.

Types of bullying include:

Triggers - The Causes

  • Low self esteem
  • Lack of compassion / empathy
  • Societal factors
  • Peer groups
  • Attention craving
  • Dysfunctional families
  • Lack of prosocial behavior
  • Inability to understand others feelings
  • Misread others intentions a kind of paranoia

Symptoms - What it looks like

  • Children - Bruises / signs of hurt, nightmares, damaged possessions, fear, doesn’t want to go to school - calls out sick a lot, no friends / party invites, acts aggressively
  • Adults - Ranges from mild annoyance to severe social, economic and psychological trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem / self-confidence, panic attacks, eating disorders, fatigue, PTSD, suicidal ideation, feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion, a sense of despair

Treatment - The way to healing

  • Realization / acknowledgement of bullying-related damage and humiliation
  • Dealing with bullying-related events
  • Mental health support through individual and/or group therapy
  • Managing the consequences of anxiety, depression with medication
